Description
Carbonless paper, also known as NCR (No Carbon Required) paper, is a specialized paper designed to transfer information written on the top sheet to the sheets beneath without using carbon paper. It was first developed by the National Cash Register Company (NCR) in the 1950s as a cleaner and more efficient alternative to traditional carbon paper.
Carbonless paper is widely used for creating multi-part forms, such as invoices, receipts, purchase orders, and other documents that require duplicates. It consists of multiple sheets of paper coated with micro-encapsulated dye or ink on the back of the top sheet and a reactive clay coating on the front of the subsequent sheet(s). When pressure is applied to the top sheet (e.g., by writing or printing), the microcapsules burst, releasing the dye, which reacts with the clay to create a copy on the sheet below.
